INEC Issues Deadline For Submission Of Names Ahead Of Ondo Governorship Election
The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has set a deadline of May 20, 2024, for political parties participating in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election to submit the names of their candidates.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the commission, made this announcement on Monday during a meeting with party chairmen and leaders at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
According to Professor Yakubu, it is crucial for parties to finalize and submit the names of their candidates before the 20th of May, as the portal for candidate submissions will close on that day for the forthcoming Ondo governorship election.
This meeting marks the second quarterly meeting for the year 2024, taking place just four months before the upcoming governorship election in Edo State, scheduled for September. The electoral body has already released the final list of candidates and their running mates for the election.
Notable party chairmen who attended the meeting included Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Julius Abure of the Labour Party, and Shehu Gabam of the Social Democratic Party.
In addition, Professor Yakubu emphasized the importance of political parties adhering strictly to all electoral guidelines for the exercise.
