Reps Cut Salaries By 50% Over Nationwide Hunger, Protest
With the increasing spate of hunger and hardship, Members of the House of Representatives have agreed to cutdown their salaries by 50percent for six months.
This is coming at a time when Nigerians are all set for a nationwide protest against bad governance, hunger, hardship and anti-people policies.
The motion’s prayer was moved by Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House, and was premised on the adoption of an amendment by Hon. Isiaka Ayokunle.
Isiaka Kunle was calling on proponents of the planned nationwide protests to jettison the idea and engage the government in dialogue.
However, the move to slash the salaries of 360Members of the green chambers may have become an apparent sacrifice.
According to Kalu, the 50% cut will be used to support federal government’s efforts in addressing high cost of food.
It will also assist the country with reducing the ongoing hardship. With this, 108million can be accumulated monthly from the salaries of 360 Members of the green Chambers.
