Odili Dares Wike, Declares Gov Fubara As Rivers Political Leader

Former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili has publicly declared his support to Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the political leader of the state amidst the ongoing political conflict with Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory.

During the unveiling of a Primary Healthcare Centre donated by his PAMO Foundation in Ndoni, Odili praised Fubara for prioritizing the welfare of the people over personal interests.

He advised Fubara to govern with the understanding that the state plays a crucial role in the nation due to its abundant natural resources.

Odili stressed that any issues in the state have a ripple effect on the entire country, highlighting the significance of Rivers State in the nation’s progress.

After evaluating Fubara’s performance, Odili praised him for achieving significant progress in crucial sectors during his first year in office, with a particular focus on the welfare of the citizens.

He acknowledged that Fubara’s leadership is aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda, especially in the healthcare sector, as evidenced by the recent launch of the Primary Healthcare Fellows scheme by the Federal Government.

Odili urged the governor to continue this alignment with the President and his policies in order to garner attention and support from the federal government for the state.

In response, Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, instructed the contractors responsible for various projects at the zonal hospitals in the state to resume work immediately.

The governor emphasized that this action is in line with his administration’s commitment to ensuring the efficient delivery of healthcare services at all levels for the people.

Fubara provided an explanation stating that he needed to raise the number of health personnel employed in the health sector to 1000 individuals.

He said the decision was made because the initial allocation of 200 personnel that he encountered when assuming his duties was significantly insufficient to meet the sector’s current demands.

Furthermore, Governor Fubara highlighted that more than 340 primary healthcare facilities in the State were functioning below their full potential. However, his administration, he said, is actively working on rehabilitating and upgrading these facilities to ensure optimal operations.

The Rivers State Governor said: “But I’m happy with what the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Board has said here today.

“On assumption of office, it was different from what we recorded, giving hope to the people. By the special grace of God, we’re not going to stop improving that sector every day.

“We’ve gone further to improve our healthcare services by promising our people not just promising, but ensuring that we’ll see it through, that all the zonal hospitals must be put back to function.

“We have invited all the contractors who were awarded those jobs and asked them to return to the site so that those facilities will function and provide services to our people.

“The Executive Secretary mentioned about employment. When we came on board, the number I saw allocated to you was 200. But I’ve given you 1000 medical doctors. That is will tell you that we place importance on healthcare service for our society.”
