INEC Commences Voter Registration In Edo

In preparation for the governorship election in Edo State on September 21, 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Benin City, the capital of the state.

Despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) urging for a postponement of the exercise due to the alleged destruction of items caused by recent flooding at the electoral umpire’s office, INEC began the registration on Monday, May 27, 2024.

Led by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Annugbum Onouha, a team of INEC officials visited various CVR centers in Benin City to attend to the public. The Idia College in the Egor Local Government Area served as the starting point for the team.

Nation Post reports that due to the flood disaster that affected the INEC headquarters over the weekend, the coordinating center for the CVR was relocated to Customs Road in Benin City, which falls under the Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

The CVR exercise will conclude on June 5, 2024.

Notable contenders for the upcoming governorship election in the state include Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Monday Okpebholo of the APC.
