New York Court Convicts Ex-US President, Donald Trump
Former United States President Donald Trump has been found guilty on all charges of felony falsification of business records.
This verdict solidifies Trump’s position as the first U.S. President to face such legal consequences.
On Thursday, the jury convicted Trump on all 34 felony counts, which are related to the falsification of business records in connection with a hush-money payment made to Stormy Daniels, an adult film star.
Nation Post understands that each count carries a maximum prison sentence of four years. However, it remains uncertain whether the former president will serve time or be given community service or probation.
The sentencing will be determined by Judge Merchan on July 11. In response to the verdict, Trump maintains his innocence and claims that he did not commit any wrongdoing.
He has also accused Judge Merchan of being corrupt.
“I’m a very innocent man, and it’s OK – I’m fighting for our country, I’m fighting for our constitution,” Trump said while leaving the courtroom in New York, according to Al Jazeera.
“This was done by the Biden administration in order to wound or hurt an opponent, a political opponent. And I think it’s just a disgrace. And we’ll keep fighting, we’ll fight ’til the end and we’ll win,” the former president alleged.
The 2024 US election campaign is expected to be significantly impacted by the verdict, as it will pit Trump against Democratic incumbent Joe Biden in November.
