Tinubu Orders MDAs To Procure CNG-Powered Vehicles

President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive mandating all government ministries, departments, and agencies to purchase vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).

Nation Post reports that this directive aligns with the country’s ongoing efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources.

CNG-enabled vehicles have been recognized for their ability to produce lower emissions and provide a more affordable option for energy consumers in Nigeria.

Recently, the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, visited the factory where these CNG vehicles are being manufactured and assured that they will soon be made available. He also emphasized that the benefits of these vehicles will be accessible to all Nigerians.

During a meeting with members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House on Monday, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to energy reforms. He emphasized that there is no turning back on these reforms, as they are crucial for ensuring energy security, promoting utility, and reducing high fuel costs.

“This nation will not progress forward if we continue to dance on the same spot. We have the will to drive the implementation of CNG adoption across the country, and we must set the example as public officials in leading the way to that prosperous future that we are working to achieve for our people. It starts with us, and in seeing that we are serious, Nigerians will follow our lead,” the president said.

Tinubu also instructed that any memos presented by FEC members requesting the acquisition of conventional gasoline-powered vehicles should be declined.

He urged the concerned council members to instead focus on procuring CNG-compliant vehicles that provide better value for money.

The Nigerian leader assured his dedication to fully utilizing the country’s gas resources, reducing the financial strain of transportation expenses on the general public, and improving the overall quality of life for all Nigerians.
