The Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adejare Adegbenro, the DG National Commission Against the Proliferation of Arms, Light Weapons and Pipeline Vandalism (NATCOM).

Nation Post reveals that the NATCOM DG was arrested Friday Night in the Federal Capital Territory. His arrest according to our source is in view of his alleged involvement in gun running, impersonation of government officials and fraudulent activities.

It was learned that NATCOM is not a recognized national institution tasked with responsibilities of controlling the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons in Nigeria.

Although, the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) which is the only constituted institution recognized by law is said to have reportedly warned against the security disaster which NATCOM may be creating.

NCCSALW in a statement on Saturday after the arrest and detention of Adegbenro by SWAT urged the public to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of any organisation claiming to be involved in arms control before engaging with them.
