Military Commander Reportedly Killed In Katsina
According to sources, a military commander stationed at Sabon Garin Dan’Ali in the Danmusa local government area of Katsina state has tragically lost his life in an ambush.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday evening, and the remains of the military commander, identified as a major in the army, have been taken to a hospital in Katsina.
Daily Trust reported that the commander, whose name is being withheld, was attacked while responding to a call for reinforcement in Malali village, located in the Kankara local government area, to counter an ongoing assault on the village.
“As you know, Malali is along Zangon Pawwa road, and that area is completely taken over by bandits. Whenever there is an attack the security agents usually ask for reinforcement from the Maraban Dan’Ali camp, and this new commander would promptly respond.
“This time around, they asked for his reinforcement, and he came using a Hilux vehicle instead of the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC); perhaps the APCs were not available at the time. Unfortunately, his assailants waylaid his vehicle and shot him in the head,” a source told journalists.
As per an undisclosed resident, it was mentioned to reporters that when recovering the deceased from the location of the event, a fierce gunfight occurred between the bandits and the military forces.
In the midst of the confrontation, the officer retrieving the body also suffered a gunshot wound.
“When the security operatives fired some shots at the direction suspected to have the bandits, they left, thinking that no one was there, but by the time the commander arrived, they targeted him and shot him,” he said.
