Portuguese professional football manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly agreed to become the new manager of Fenerbahce.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the 61-year-old tactician will be replacing Ismail Kartal at the Turkish Super Lig club, signing a two-year contract.

This will be Mourinho’s 11th managerial role. Fenerbahce, who finished second in the Turkish Super Lig for the third year in a row, decided to seek new leadership.

Mourinho’s appointment comes after his departure from Roma earlier this year, where he spent two and a half years. While there were rumours linking Mourinho to Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah, it seems that his next destination is Turkey.

Interestingly, Mourinho’s new role at Fenerbahce coincides with his recent announcement to join TNT Sports for the coverage of the Champions League final on June 1. Known as ‘The Special One,’ Mourinho expressed his desire to return to management after a five-month break.

In a previous interview with MBC Egypt, Mourinho hinted at a future managerial position in Saudi Arabia, saying, “I will go to Saudi Arabia in some free time, but I am convinced that I will work there. I don’t know when, but I am pretty sure of it. No one knows the future, but I will definitely do this. Doors are always open for me in Saudi Arabia. I want to feel the development there.”

Despite falling just three points short of their rivals Galatasaray, Fenerbahce showcased a strong performance last season, accumulating an impressive 99 points.

However, at present, Mourinho is on the verge of assuming control at Fenerbahce, with the aim of restoring glory to Istanbul.
