Lokoja-Shintaku Bridge: FG, Julius Berger Agrees On Alt. Funding

The Honourable Minister of Works, HE, Sen. Engr. David Umahi has met with the Business Dev. Strategist of Julius Berger PLC Filipe Nuno Lopes.

According to reports, the meeting is in view of providing funding alternatives for the construction of Lokoja-Shintaku Bridge in Kogi state.

The Director Structured Trade & Export Finance Middle East & Africa of Deutsche Bank, Humaya Harati and it’s Nigeria Chief Country Representative Andreas Voss, where also part of the meeting.

The meeting was held at the honorable Minister’s office in Mabushi, Abuja. and described as a credible path to the eventual financing of the project.

During discussions, the Honourable Minister stated that alternative source of funding aligns with the administration’s vision to bridge the gap in road infrastructure funding.

The Minister further expressed hope on the accomplishment of project targets. He is confident on the immense financing capacity, relationships, and lengthy records of the firm in arranging financing for projects in the African continent.

Umahi emphasized the need for timeline of the procurement process to be streamlined so that construction of the project can start and be completed on a record time.

Speaking during the meeting, the representative of Julius Berger Plc and team lead, Mr. Filipe, assured that Lokoja- Shintaku project would be moved forward.

He said with the certificate of no objection issued by the Bureau of Public Procurement to the single source procurement of the bridge from Julius Berger Plc, the project will be commenced.
