Vinicius, Carvajal Helps Real Madrid Secure 15th Champions League Title
Real Madrid secured their 15th UEFA Champions League title on Saturday after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley Stadium, in London.
This is all thanks to winger Vinicius Jr. and defender Dani Carvajal, who scored a goal each to help Carlo Ancelotti make another historic record with the Spanish giants.
Nation Post reports that Carvajal headed in from Toni Kroos’ corner in the 74th minute of the game before Vinicius sealed the victory for Real Madrid by firing the ball into the net nine minutes later.
The Champions League victory has further extended Real Madrid’s record as the most successful club in the competition’s history.
Madrid’s remarkable success in the European Cup continues, as they have now triumphed in their last nine finals and secured the prestigious title six times in the past 11 seasons.
However, their victory against underdogs Dortmund was not without some stroke of luck. Dortmund will surely rue their missed opportunities in the first half, with Niclas Fuellkrug hitting the post and Karim Adeyemi failing to convert a one-on-one chance against Thibaut Courtois.
Nevertheless, Madrid has consistently found a way to succeed in Europe’s top-tier competition and added another chapter to their illustrious history in the English capital. Carvajal, Kroos, Nacho, and Luka Modric have now joined Real legend Paco Gento as the only players to have won the European Cup six times.
Furthermore, Carlo Ancelotti has solidified his position as the most successful coach in the competition’s history, securing his fifth title.
Despite the authorities’ efforts to prevent a repeat of the violent incidents that marred the Euro 2020 final three years ago, questions regarding the security operation will arise as three individuals managed to invade the pitch in the opening minutes of the game, with one even taking photos alongside Jude Bellingham and Vinicius.
