Yahaya Bello: White Lion Turned Black Camel, As EFCC Knocks
By Godson Ikpontu
The Former Governor of Kogi state, Mr. Yahaya Bello has been in hiding or what in the local palace is referred to as “low key”. Since the swearing-in of his Successor, HE Usman Ododo, the Ex-Governor has been noticed to be cold, humble and reserved which is unlike him.
The “White Lion” as he is popularly described may have now abandoned his old identity of arrogance, pride and boastfulness to become a “Black Crippled Camel”. Unfortunately, we are unsure if this new identity can earn him a place in the President’s book of relevance or bell him to jail.
Few months ago, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission linked the Ex Governor to an 80Billion naira fraud which himself and top officials in his administration looted for personal use. Unknowingly to the Ex Governor, investigations have remained underway into other critical unholy activities he was involved in.
In trying to seek federal pardon from the rot of the eagle’s claws, Bello had accompanied the current Governor, Usman Ododo on a visit to President Tinubu’s Bourdillon during the Eid celebration last week.
They were both received to a warm reception and hospitality from the President who appeared as that all is well. The warm reception was a sign of relief for Yahaya Bello who assumed his sins have been forgiven.
After his visit to Tinubu, Yahaya Bello felt it was time to retire to his castle located at Benghazi Street, Wuse zone 4, Abuja. Before now he has remained in the Kogi state government house trying to shield from arrest by law enforcement agencies.
Unfortunately, the eagle kept a watch and visited him in the early hours of Wednesday April 2024 at his Abuja residence. On arrival, the Ex-Governor became as scared as a deaf bat and tried reaching out to top government officials on his phone book, but haplessly all calls he made was ignored.
The truth is, no one can eat his cake and still have it. We all know from a political point of view that Yahaya Bello is completely irrelevant to 2027 permutations of President Tinubu.
We also are aware that his relationship with President Tinubu has remained very cold making him vulnerable to law enforcement agencies and especially the EFCC. We are all watching to see if the eagles watch will abide by the rule of law and ensure that Yahaya Bello and his cohorts are brought to book.
