Tinubu didn’t create current economic problems – Presidency Replies NYT
The presidency has addressed a report by New York Times regarding the current economic challenges in the country.
The clarification was made on Sunday, in a statement released by the Special Senior Adviser to the President on information and strategy.
The report by New York Times is titled ‘Nigeria Confronts Its Worst Economic Crisis in a Generation,’
Onanuga described the report as derogatory, predetermined, reductionist and denigrating. He expressed worries over the way foreign media establishments reported African countries for several decades.
According to Onanuga, the report blamed the Tinubu administration for the economic problems which the country is currently battling.
He stressed that while the report identified the challenges, they failed to spotlight positive aspects.
He says, “To be sure, President Tinubu did not create the economic problems Nigeria faces today. He inherited them”.
