Senate Commence Sitting On Electricity Tariff Hike Probe
The Senate Committee on Power has initiated an inquiry into the recent increase in electricity tariffs across the nation.
The inquiry is being held at the National Assembly in Abuja, Nation Post understands.
The Senate has made it clear that any individual or organization found responsible for exacerbating Nigerians’ challenges will face severe consequences.
During the hearing on Monday, Senator Eyinnaya Ababribe, the committee chairman, highlighted that the investigation was prompted by two motions put forward during plenary sessions on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023, and Wednesday, February 21st, 2024.
The Senate’s resolutions have directed the Committee on Power to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Power, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, and other relevant stakeholders.
Key figures such as the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and other high-ranking officials from the power sector were present at the hearing.
