Proposed Minimum Wage Figure Is Open To Adjustments – Labour Leader
Leaders of organized labour has maintained a flexible position on the new minimum wage figure, which is a burning national issue.
Organised labour has said that there’s no figure set yet. This was confirmed in a statement by Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
He made the statement on “The Morning Brief”, a popular political program on Channels TV.
Recall that the tripartite committee has proposed two figures to President Bola Tinubu: N62,000 from the government and private sector, and N250,000 from organised labour.
Festus Osifo said that no figure is fixed and that there’s room for adjustments. President Tinubu will soon send an executive bill to the National Assembly.
The TUC is therefore working coherently to convince the President to favor their proposed figure.
Osifo asserted that if the proposal isn’t favorable, they will lobby lawmakers for better terms.
Tinubu has stated he will only approve a wage the government can afford, cautioning against unsustainable figures at a dinner marking Nigeria’s 25 years of democracy.
