PDP NWC Settles For Damagum As New National Chairman Ahead Of NEC

The National Working Committee of PDP has finally acclaimed Umar Damagum as the National Chairman of the Party. This was confirmed few hours to the 98th NEC meeting scheduled for Thursday April 2024.
This was made public in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba. Nation Post Confirmed that the decision was reached during the last 584th meeting.
PDP NWC passed the vote of confidence regardless of the call for Umar Damagum’s removal. According to the statement, the confirmation was premised on Damagum’s commitments and effort towards repositioning and stabilizing the Party.
Before now, Umar Damagum served as the PDP National Deputy Chairman(North). He was later appointed as the Acting National Chairman after the suspension of the previous national chairman Iyorchia Ayu.
The motion to appoint Umar Damagum was moved by Chief Ali Odefa, the National Vice Chairman(Southeast) and seconded by Hon. Yayari Mohammed the National Treasurer but was finally presided by Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, the Deputy National Chairman(south).
