Nigerian Passport Ranked Among Top Worst Globally – [See List]
The global ranking of the Nigerian passport has once again brought attention to the considerable obstacles encountered by Nigerian travellers in their pursuit of international mobility.
According to the latest assessment by VisaGuide’s World Passport Index, the Nigerian passport is ranked 191 out of 199 countries. This places it below countries like North Korea, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Somalia.
This ranking is concerning, especially considering Nigeria’s recent efforts to improve mobility through initiatives such as e-visas. It raises questions about the effectiveness of these measures and the overall state of the country’s passport.
In contrast, the Singaporean passport has claimed the top spot as the strongest passport in the world, followed by passports from Italy, Spain, France, and Germany.
The decline in the Nigerian passport’s ranking can be attributed to various factors, including visa-free access, diplomatic relations, and security concerns. Other factors such as visa-free travel, electronic travel authorization, visa on arrival, e-visas, embassy-approved visas, passport-free travel, and banned entry also contribute to this decline.
Furthermore, the Henley Passport Index, which considers the number of countries passport holders can enter without a visa, has consistently listed the Nigerian passport among the worst-performing travel documents worldwide.
This ongoing low ranking emphasizes the urgent need for Nigeria to address the underlying issues that are affecting the global standing of its passport.
