NAFDAC Seals Water, Agrochemical Factories In Nasarawa Over Illegal Operations

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken action against two unregistered factories located in Lafia and Obi Local Government Areas of Nasarawa state.

According to Matthew Adeoye, the state NAFDAC Coordinator, the agrochemical factory in Lafia and the table water-producing factory in Obi have been sealed

In an interview with journalists on Tuesday, Adeoye revealed that regulatory officers from NAFDAC conducted a raid on May 9 and discovered that the products from these factories were falsified and substandard.

Adeoye emphasized the negative impact of these illegal manufacturers on farm produce, stating that they specialized in producing falsified and adulterated agrochemicals and unapproved packaged water.

It was also revealed that both companies were operating without approval, which clearly violates the NAFDAC Act CAP. F.33 LFN 2004.

“Adulterated products from manufacturers like this, when used, do not produce the desired result and cause economic losses, loss of livestock and resultant effects on humans.

“The packaged water facility was also operating in an unhygienic environment without adhering to the water treatment procedures outlined by NAFDAC,” Adeoye noted.

As he stated, the agency seized the equipment from the factories.

The NAFDAC coordinator stressed that the facilities would remain sealed until there was an update.

He urged manufacturing companies to register with the appropriate regulatory agencies to avoid facing penalties.
