Local Government Autonomy

A group, the Patriotic Nigeria Youth Forum (PNYF), has commended the federal government for instituting litigation against the 36 state governments for undermining local governance.

The Group National Coordinator, Comr. Olamide Odumosu, gave the commendation in a statement shared with journalists on Tuesday.

He said, it is imperative that we lend our unwavering support to the federal government and President Tinubu’s administration in their pursuit of this noble cause.

He explained that the autonomy of local governments is not just a matter of administrative convenience; it is a fundamental aspect of democracy.

“It is about giving power back to the people, about allowing communities to govern themselves according to their unique needs and aspirations. By breaking free from the shackles of state control, local governments can truly flourish, unleashing a wave of innovation that will reverberate throughout the nation.”

Odumosu noted that the benefits of local government autonomy are manifold. It will usher in a new era of security and stability. By empowering local authorities to take charge of law enforcement and public safety, we can effectively combat crime and ensure the safety of our citizens.

In his words”No longer will communities be held hostage by the scourge of insecurity; instead, they will have the tools and resources to protect themselves and their loved ones.

“Furthermore, local government autonomy holds the key to unlocking our nation’s economic potential.

“By devolving power to the grassroots level, we can unleash the entrepreneurial spirit of our people, creating jobs and driving economic growth.

“With greater control over their own affairs, local governments can implement policies that attract investment, spur development, and uplift communities out of poverty.

“The autonomy is a matter of justice and equity. It is about ensuring that every voice is heard, and that every community has the opportunity to shape its own destiny.”

He said that by standing behind the Federal Government and President Tinubu’s administration, we are sending a clear message: that we believe in the power of democracy, and that we trust in the wisdom of our people to govern themselves.

“Let us unite in support of local government autonomy. Let us stand shoulder to shoulder with the Federal Government and President Tinubu’s administration in their quest to empower our communities and build a brighter future for all.”
