Rivers Commissioner For Housing Resigns From Fubara’s Cabinet
The Commissioner for Housing in Rivers State, Gift Worlu, has submitted his resignation from Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration.
The resignation was communicated through a letter dated May 15, addressed to the governor and sent via the office of the secretary to the state government, Tammy Danagogo. Worlu is the second commissioner to step down from the state cabinet on the same day.
This is coming shortly after the Rivers State Executive Council received the resignation of Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education.
In a resignation letter, dated May 15, 2024, made available to journalists, Professor Mmom, a well-known loyalist of former governor Nyesom Wike, cited a “toxic” working environment as the primary reason for his decision.
He expressed his belief that such an environment would hinder his ability to achieve the set targets for the Education sector in the State.
Despite his resignation, Professor Mmom expressed gratitude to Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the opportunity to serve in his administration. He also extended his well wishes to the governor.
The letter read, “It is a truism that a calm, safe and friendly environment would stimulate efficient service delivery and enhanced productivity.
“It is however unfortunate to note that my current work space has become toxic and no longer guarantees a favourable environment to enable me realize my set targets for the Education sector in the State.
“There is loss of trust, animosity and sharp division among colleagues in the same cabinet which is unhealthy and very unfortunate.
“I want to thank Your Excellency for the opportunity to serve in your cabinet and wish your administration well.
“Kindly accept the assurances of my esteemed regards.”
