IMN: Police Ban Unlawful Gatherings In Kaduna

Inspector Isong Osudueh, a police officer attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) in Owerri, Imo state, has been demoted.

The decision is coming as a result of a widely circulated video that showed the police officer extorting money from motorists along the Owerri-Onitsha express road.

The Imo state police commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, made this announcement in a statement issued by the police spokesman, Henry Okoye.

The statement described the officer’s behaviour as shameful and unprofessional.

Additionally, the supervisory officer has been given an official query for failing to provide adequate supervision. Aboki expressed his condemnation of the officer’s actions and emphasized that the command would not tolerate any form of extortion or misconduct by its personnel.

He further warned that supervisory officers who neglect their oversight duties will face severe sanctions.

The police commissioner urged residents to continue supporting the police and other security agencies by providing timely and actionable information to ensure public safety.

“This incident highlights the police command’s commitment to maintaining professionalism, transparency, and integrity among its personnel,” he said.

In other news, the federal government has insisted on full autonomy of LGAs across the 36 states of the country. This was confirmed in a lawsuit filed by the Federal Government against the 36 state Governors.

According to Nation Post, the suit is marked SC/CV/343/2024 and was filed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN.

In the suit, FG prayed the apex court to issue an order interdicting state governors from proceeding with unilateral, arbitrary, and unlawful dissolution of democratically elected local government leaders.

The prayers of the suit by the Federal Government include the permission of LGAs to access funds directly from the Federal account.

The suite further prevents State Governors from constituting a caretaker Committee to overrun LGAs’ activities or tamper with funds from the Federation account meant for LGAs.
