June 13 Fixed For Court Decision On Jurisdiction In Emir Sanusi Case
A Federal High Court in Kano will soon rule on its jurisdiction in the case involving the reinstatement of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. The case was brought against the Kano State Government and is scheduled the decision for June 13, 2024.
The lawsuit was initiated by Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, a former senior councillor of the Kano Emirate, who alleges that his removal from office was carried out unilaterally and without due consent.
Dan Agundi’s counsel, Barrister M. A Waziri, argued that the court has the authority to hear the case, emphasizing that his client did not receive a fair hearing before Emir Aminu Ado Bayero’s deposition, which led to Dan Agundi’s dismissal.
He also contended that the procedures used in Sanusi’s reinstatement were illegal and should be considered null and void.
In contrast, counsel for Emir Sanusi, Barrister Muhamud A. Magaji, urged the court to dismiss the argument that it has jurisdiction, asserting that the State House of Assembly holds the power to amend, repeal, or enact laws as needed without consultation with Dan Agundi.
The presiding judge, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, indicated that two motions are pending: one concerning the court’s jurisdiction and another seeking to overturn the order that halted Sanusi’s reinstatement.
The court will deliver its ruling on these matters on June 13.
