IMN: Police Ban Unlawful Gatherings In Kaduna
The Kaduna State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has declared a ban on all unauthorized protests, gathering by the banned Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), encompassing its scheduled Ashura procession.
The spokesperson for the police command, ASP Mansir Hassan, made the announcement through a statement released on Sunday in Kaduna.
Hassan mentioned that the command has issued a ban on all types of unlawful demonstrations within the state.
This decision follows information received that the banned Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also referred to as Shi’ite, is organizing a procession to celebrate the 2024 Islamic Ashura Day.
“It is an undeniable fact that the said ritual practice has in the recent past been characterised by unimaginable violence leading to the destruction of properties, injuries to persons and even loss of lives.
“It is against this backdrop that the Police command is warning the said sect members, who were since proscribed by law, to drop such a procession idea,” the police statement reads.
Hassan mentioned that the authority would not shy away from applying the full force of legal action against any individual or organization, particularly those who are banned IMN members, who attempt to break the prohibition.
He also mentioned that the Police Commissioner of Kaduna State Command, Mr. Ali Dabigi, has urged all law-abiding citizens to continue their lawful activities without any fear.
He further stated that the peace that has been achieved in the state through hard work should never be jeopardized by the selfish actions of a few ‘rebels’.
