FG To Terminate Power Abuse Of Governors On LGAs, Seeks Full Autonomy
The federal government has insisted on full autonomy of LGAs across the 36 state of the country. This was confirmed in a lawsuit filed by the Federal Government against the 36 state Governors.
According to Nation Post, the suit is marked SC/CV/343/2024 and was filed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN.
In the suit, FG prayed the apex court to issue an order that interdicts state governors from proceeding on unilateral, arbitrary and unlawful dissolution of democratically elected local government leaders.
The prayers of the suit by Federal Government includes the permission of LGAs to directly access funds from the Federal account.
The suite further stops State Governors from constituting caretaker Committee to overrun the activities of LGAs or tamper with funds from the Federation account meant for LGAs.
