Cross River Announces Plan To Recruit 6,000 School Teachers
The government of Cross River State has unveiled a plan to recruit 6000 new teachers to address the shortage of educators.
Stephen Odey, the Commissioner for Education, made the announcement during a press briefing on Tuesday, highlighting the accomplishments of the ministry under Governor Bassey Otu.
According to Odey, Governor Otu has approved the recruitment of additional teachers after observing that some schools have a limited number of teachers, while various departments and agencies within the ministry lack sufficient staff.
Odey emphasized the importance of sustaining teacher interest by offering incentives and focusing on recruiting candidates from local communities, particularly those in rural areas.
He also mentioned that teachers who were previously demoted due to qualification issues would be reinstated after meeting the necessary academic requirements.
In response to concerns about cultism in schools, Odey mentioned collaborative efforts with the Department of State Security (DSS) and the police to address the problem.
