BREAKING: Senators Fight Over Sitting Arrangement In Renovated Chamber

There was a rowdy session during Tuesday’s plenary session in the main chamber of the National Assembly, as the seating arrangement divided the senators.

This was due to the ongoing renovation of the chamber, which had been in progress for several years. During this period, the senators had been conducting their legislative activities in a temporary hall.

However, with the completion of the renovation project, they were able to move back into the newly renovated chamber after a recess of approximately 40 days.

Nation Post understands that the trouble began when the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, started announcing the names of senators who had celebrated their birthdays during recess.

Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u (APC Zamfara North) specifically stood up from his assigned seat to express his dissatisfaction with the Majority Leader, Senator Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele (APC Ekiti Central), regarding the seat allocated to him.

The complaint made by Senator Bamidele was met with a strong reaction, leading to a heated exchange of words between the two senators.

This escalated into a chaotic situation, prompting the senators to quickly move into a closed-door meeting.

Senator Ya’u, in the midst of the chaos, expressed his dissatisfaction with the seating arrangement, emphasizing his status as a ranking Senator and Deputy Minority Whip during the 9th National Assembly.

The tension increased further when Senator Danjuma Goje (APC Gombe Central) joined the discussion, also voicing his concerns about the seating of ranking Senators.

In an effort to calm the situation, Akpabio urged the leader and the disgruntled Senators to resolve their differences before proceeding with the meeting.

Following Akpabio’s intervention, the senators proceeded to an emergency executive session.
