FRAUD: Court Grants Buhari’s Ex-Minister, Sirika, Daughter, Two Others Bail
Hadi Sirika, a former Minister of Aviation under Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, his daughter, and two others have been granted bail in the amount of ₦100 each by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
This development comes as they face trial for an alleged fraud amounting to ₦2.7 billion. The court has specified that the sureties must possess properties in Abuja, exhibit good citizenship, and provide an affidavit of their financial capabilities.
Additionally, the defendants have been prohibited from travelling abroad without the court’s authorization.
Justice Oriji of the Abuja High Court has further directed that if the defendants fail to meet the conditions of their bail, they will be remanded in prison.
The EFCC dragged Hadi Sirika to court earlier on charges of abuse of office and fraudulent contracts awarded during his tenure.
He was scheduled to appear before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama.
Today, Sirika, along with three others, including his daughter Fatima, Jalal Hamma, and Al-Duraq Investment Ltd, was arraigned on a six-count amended charge. During his tenure, the controversial Nigeria Air project was implemented.
The defendants, including Sirika, are accused of misusing their positions and conspiring to commit fraud amounting to N2.7 billion.
Channels Television reported that Sirika diverted public funds into accounts and companies associated with his daughter, Fatima, son-in-law, Jalal Hamma, and their associates.
