Emir Sanusi Returns To Kano, Receives Appointment Letter Today
The reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi Lamido, has arrived at Kano State Government House to collect his letter of appointment before commencing his duties as the new emir. The newly appointed first-class Emir was welcomed in Kano on Thursday night during a homecoming reception.
Lamido is scheduled to attend a mini-durbar ceremony at the Africa House in Kano Government House before proceeding to the Nasarawa Emir’s palace.
Following this, the Emir will lead the jumu’at (Friday) prayers at the Kano Central mosque situated at the palace in Kofar Kudu.
According to The Nation, the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has returned to the throne after a four-year hiatus due to the signing of the Kano State Emirates Councils (Repeal) Bill 2024 by Governor Yusuf.
The Governor has also removed five emirs appointed by Ganduje and instructed them to vacate their official residences and palaces within 48 hours, handing over all affairs to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Nonetheless, the Federal High Court in Kano has issued an order preventing the Kano State Government from implementing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law. Justice Mohammed Liman granted the order in an application by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate.
The respondents in the fundamental rights case regarding the Emir’s seat include the Kano State Government, the House of Assembly, the Speaker, the Attorney-General, the Commissioner of Police, the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the State Security Service.
