Court Issues Fresh Arrest Order On Kogi Ex-gov Yahaya Bello
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected the plea made by the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to cancel the arrest warrant issued against him by the court.
The Judge emphasized that the former governor’s refusal to appear for arraignment in a criminal case constituted contempt of court, thus disqualifying him from receiving any leniency or special treatment.
In his ruling on Friday regarding Bello’s request to revoke the arrest warrant, the court stated that Bello’s persistent absence for arraignment showed a lack of respect for the court’s authority.
The court, while denying the request on the grounds of its lack of validity, emphasized that Bello cannot evade legal proceedings by remaining in the comfort of his home and attempting to dictate terms to the court.
Furthermore, the Judge dismissed the former Governor’s argument that the Federal High Court did not have the jurisdiction to preside over the criminal charges brought against him.
Justice Nwite emphasized the importance of Bello being present for arraignment and having his plea recorded before making any further applications or requests.
Justice Nwite highlighted that Bello must attend his arraignment and enter his plea before proceeding with any other motions or appeals.
