Borno Residents Flee Ancestral Homes As ISWAP Terrorists Issue ‘Leave Or Die’ Notice
Just days after the brutal killing of fifteen fishermen in the Tumbun Rogo community, the terrorist group known as the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly issued a chilling warning to the residents of Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Nation Post learned that the residents had been given an ultimatum to leave their communities or face certain death at the hands of the terror group.
A resident, who managed to escape to Maiduguri just three hours after receiving the threat, shared this information with Channels Television.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the resident recounted how the terrorists had gathered the residents of various communities in the lga early on Thursday morning and ordered them to evacuate their homes before Saturday, under the threat of being killed.
In response to the terrifying warning, communities in the area immediately began to evacuate. Some sought refuge in Kross Kauwa, while others fled to Monguno.
Kukawa lga, located near Lake Chad, is well-known for its fishing, farming, and other agricultural activities. The area is surrounded by Lake Chad and is under the protection of Nigerian Army and Navy troops.
Despite being displaced by the insurgents during the insurgency, some communities such as Kross Kauwa, Baga, Doron-Baga, Kukawa community, and Tumbun Rogo were resettled by the administration of Professor Babagana Zulum.
However, the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have continued to target these communities due to the socioeconomic value they hold for the terrorists.
The terrorists exploit the fishing and farming activities in the area for their own survival and financial support, despite the relative peace and stability that has been restored to the region.
