Abia Gov’t Pledges To Rebuild Umuahia To Better Capital City
The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has made a commitment to revamp Umuahia, the state capital, within the next twelve months, transforming it from what he referred to as “a glorified village” into a city that befits its status.
During an interdenominational thanksgiving service held to mark his one year in office, Governor Otti disclosed his plans to commence a multi-billion Naira bus terminal project in the capital city on Tuesday, May 28.
The aim of this project is to consolidate all motor parks and the railway terminal in one location, thereby enhancing the efficiency of transportation services.
Governor Otti emphasized that Umuahia will undergo a significant transformation in the coming year, reflecting its position as the capital city.
“We want Umuahia to be a proper capital city. We want all the parks and the markets to be in the same place, even the railway terminal.
“You know the railway is coming from Aba, and very soon, it will hit Umuahia. We have already agreed with them to move the Umuahia Central Terminal into the same place.
“So, Umuahia, in the next one year, you may not be able to recognise it if you travel,” Governor Otti disclosed.
The Governor made a firm commitment that his administration will persist in doing what is right, regardless of any opposition, and urged the citizens to continuously pray for his leadership.
In addition to pledging to bring positive change to Abia, the Governor expressed his indifference towards negative remarks from certain groups, as he is solely accountable to God and the people of Abia.
Governor Otti emphasized that there will be no discrimination in Abia during his tenure, as all individuals, whether native or non-native residents of the state, will be treated fairly.
“In my administration, I have assured everyone that there will be no division. We are all one and the same people.
“I think what is most important is also that this administration does not discriminate, we don’t even want to know what part of Abia you’re coming from.
“We don’t even want to know what part of Igboland you come from. Once you reside here (in Abia), you are a part of us. That is why today, we have for the first time a Permanent Secretary, who does not come from Abia State, who does not come from any state in the South East but comes from Edo State,” Governor Otti stated.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve the state, acknowledging that it would not have been possible without God’s intervention and the support of the people of Abia. He made a commitment to not let down both God and the citizens. Instead of celebrating the anniversary, the Governor’s administration chose to commemorate it by inaugurating significant projects that were completed under their leadership.
The Reverend Dr. Uma Onwunta, in his sermon titled “Pay Back Time to God,” emphasized the importance of expressing gratitude to God and fulfilling vows made to Him. He highlighted that prayers and recognizing our dependence on God’s grace are ways to show our appreciation.
The Reverend also commended Governor Otti for the accomplishments made in the state. The Thanksgiving Service was attended by various high-ranking government officials, including the deputy Governor, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, and the Chief Judge of the State.
