Coalition of Aspirants Reject APC Oyo Primary Election

In Ibadan Oyo State, a group of aggrieved aspirants under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected the outcome of the party’s primary election.

The group alleged that no valid exercise took place at the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election.

The United Ibadan North Federal Constituency Aspirants Forum, issued a statement on Tuesday in Ibadan.

They described the process that produced Mr. Adewale Murphy Olatunji as the party’s candidate as fraudulent and a violation of democratic norms.

According to them, they were prepared to participate in what was supposed to be a free, fair, and credible primary on Sunday. Unfortunately, no delegate congress was held and no primary election took place.

They expressed shock at waking up the following day to see Mr Olatunji parading himself as the party’s candidate.

They called on the national leadership of the APC and relevant party organs to wade into the matter and ensure that due process is followed ahead of next month’s bye-election.

The forum also claimed that the APC leadership in Ibadan North Local Government similarly disassociated itself from the process that allegedly produced the candidate, branding the exercise as illegitimate.

“The declaration of Mr Adewale Murphy Olatunji as the APC candidate is unknown to the party’s democratic procedures, especially when the National Secretariat has not issued any official statement on the matter,” the forum said.
