Corruption: Women Affairs Minister Uju Kennedy Drilled By Committee
The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has been drilled by the House of Representative Commitee on Women Affairs led by Kafilat Ogbara.
The Tuesday fair trial is partly in view of corruption allegation and alleged diversion of N1.5Billion leveled on the Minister of Women Affairs and her team.
The conversation became overheated when Uju Kennedy refuted the allegations with loud escalated voice.
Marie Ebikake, a member of the Commitee reminded the Minister that she was a two time Commissioner.
She stressed that the permanent secretary, the director of finance and minster were suppose to work as a team.
Marie said that when the permanent secretary was contacted, he said that he wasn’t aware of the situation.
She accused the Minister of running a two man show, thereby sidelining members of staff of the ministry.
While responding to the Honourable member, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye says, “I take exception to this. I don’t like this allegation.”
“I don’t want, it I am no slave to anybody. She should withdraw that statement. It is not fairness here. It is a trap but I am not going to jump into it. The Minister added.
The fair trial was organized after contractors petitioned the committee, claiming they had not been paid for completed work, even when payment had already been approved to the ministry.
