Women Affairs Minister Clears Air Over Statement On Mass Wedding of Orphans
Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has said the mass wedding of 100 female orphans in Niger State is in order. This is against her earlier statement which was misunderstood.
Nation Post confirmed this in a statement released by the Minister’s Aide, Adaji Usman few hours ago.
According to Adaji Usman, the Minister is set to give scholarships and gift items to the brides who have been joined today in Niger State.
The Minister had in the statement maintained that the controversy was escalated by news organizations.
She had earlier claimed that the Speaker, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji agreed to sponsor the wedding on the grounds of violation of the Child Rights Act.
In a contradictory affirmation, she says, “I did not intend to stop the marriage but to be sure if the girls are of marriageable age and were not being forced into it.”
Kennedy-Ohanenye further applauded the initiative by Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, she assured close monitoring of the girls.
The Minister also donated gift items, scholarships and promised that bank accounts be opened for the new brides.
