Edo Speaker, Agbebaku Suspends Three Lawmakers After Failed Impeachment Attempt
The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, took the decision on Monday to suspend three members of the house who were allegedly involved in a plot to impeach him and other Principal Officers Council, POC.
The suspension took place during the plenary session. The lawmakers suspended are two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their names are Okogbe Ojeneh Donald (PDP, Akoko-Edo II), Addeh Emankhu Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I), and Iyamu Bright (PDP, Orhionnwon II).
Agbebaku stated that the suspension of the trio is indefinite, as they were allegedly involved in a plot to change the leadership of the house.
He further claimed that external forces were influencing the suspended members to cause chaos and remove the current leadership. Additionally, he alleged that some individuals brought native doctors into the assembly complex at midnight on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, to perform demonic rituals and place charms.
The suspension of these lawmakers has caused tension within the house, as the affected members have expressed their opposition to the decision.
In a rowdy session, the three suspended lawmakers were seen screaming, “Mr Speaker, you do not have the right to unilaterally suspend any member(s) of the house.
“You must call for votes. Allow members to vote on the matter, they shouted.”
The Speaker, thereafter, adjourned plenary abruptly.
