Nigerian Army Troops Arrest Gun-Runner, Foils Kidnap Attempts In Taraba
The Nigerian Army troops, in collaboration with vigilantes, have reportedly arrested one Mansir Mohammed, who was allegedly involved in gun-running activities with terrorists at Jalingo Motor Park.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwe, the Director of Army Public Relations, disclosed this information in a statement released on Monday through Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde, the Public Relations Officer of the 6th Army Brigade.
According to the statement, the arrest of the suspected gunner not only resulted in his capture but also led to the apprehension of other members of his gang.
The operation yielded several seized items, including a semi-automatic pump action gun, a locally fabricated gun, a Peugeot car, five mobile phones, and 45,000 in cash.
In a separate operation, troops conducting routine patrol in Miyande Village, located in Takum Local Government Area, intercepted two terrorist suspects who were concealing an automatic rifle under the seat of a motorbike they were riding.
It was reported that the soldiers managed to seize an AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle in connection with this arrest, as stated by Olubodunde.
He also mentioned that the troops swiftly responded to a distress call and effectively thwarted a kidnapping incident in Zaki-Biam town, located in Zaki-Biam Local Government Area of Benue State.
In the course of the operation, one of the kidnappers was eliminated in a gun battle with the criminals, and a Beretta pistol with 4 rounds of 9 mm ammunition was recovered, Olubodunde added.
